Que : What do you understand by the term Marginalisation?
Answer :
  1. The term marginalisation is the process of forcing a group of Individuals to occupy the margin or periphery of the Society.
Que : Who are tribals? Name any two tribes native to India.
Answer :
  1. Tribals are communities who lived and often continue to live in close proximity to the forest area. 
  2. Example: Santhals of Jharkhand, Mundas of Madhya Pradesh, Gonds of Chhattisgarh and Oraons of Chota Nagpur
Que : Which community can avail the reservation benefits?
Answer :
  1. Communities like Scheduled Castes (or Dalits), Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes can avail the reservation benefits.
Que : What measures have been taken by the government to make education more accessible for the scheduled castes and scheduled Tribes?
Answer :

Que : Explain the articles of the constitution of India that safeguard the rights of the minorities.
Answer :
 Article 29: Protection of interests of minorities
  1. Any section of the citizens residing in the territory of India or any part thereof having a distinct language, script or culture of its own shall have the right to conserve the same.
  2. No citizen shall be denied admission into any educational institution maintained by the State or receiving aid out of State funds on grounds of religion, race, caste or language.

Que : Why have tribals been displaced from the forest areas? Why is the process of their displacement often painful? 
Answer :
Adivasis have been displaced from the forest areas due to the following reasons:
  1. When the government carries out development plans like building of dams, wildlife sanctuaries and mining sites.
  2. Adivasis stayed in the forests and often in areas which were rich in mineral resources. 
  3. They were displaced to carry out development projects that had little benefits for them.
  4. The process of displacement of adivasi is often painful because they are moved from the place where they’ve been staying for a very long time and sometimes, they do not have any other place to go.

Que : Explain the constitutional provisions that extend protection to the marginalised sections of the society.
Answer :
The articles which extend protection to the marginalised sections of society are:
  1. Article 15: Prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. 
  2. Reservations in the case of women, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, disabled persons and other backward classes are allowed.
  3.  Article 16: Provides for equality of opportunity for all citizens in matters relating to employment in an office under the Central or State government.
  4. It prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. 
  5. It also allows reserving posts in favour of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
Que : Discuss how reservation policy introduced by the government helped in the upliftment of the socially and economically marginalised classes.

The reservation policy has helped in the upliftment of the socially and economically backward classes as:
  1. The tribes and the castes which are mentioned in the list are eligible for availing 27 percent reservation. 
  2. The government decides the cut-off marks for admission in professional colleges. 
  3. The ones who score higher marks qualify for admission in these colleges. Scholarships are given to meritorious students.
