Answer :
- The term government refers to a person or group of people with the authority to govern a country or a state
- It make the laws for the country
- It is responsible for managing every affairs of the country.
- It takes all the decisions for the country behalf of it’s citizen.
- It ensures that the basic requirements of the citizens of the country are fulfilled
- It also looks after the economically weaker sections of the society by launching various schemes for their upliftment.
- The government is also responsible to protect the country from any kind of foreign invasions, thereby maintaining peace within and outside the country.
- In case of any natural disasters like flood, drought or an earthquake, it acts as a facilitator by providing relief to the people with the help of various relief camp

Answer :
- Democracy is a form of government, where people elect their representatives.
- The word Democracy is derived from the Greek word "DÄ“mokratia" Demos (“people”) and kratos (“rule”)
- The former president of USA Abraham Lincoln defined that, Democracy is the government

Representative democracy is a type of government in which eligible citizens elect their representative and control the system of government through elections

It is the right granted to the citizens above the age of 18 to vote for their representatives irrespective of caste, gender, religion or creed they belong to
Que : How does the government exercise authority with the help of laws? Explain with an example.
Answer :
The government constitutes laws and ensures that the laws are being followed by the citizens of the country
For example,
- The government prohibits the engagement of children in all occupations
- Therefore, anybody involved in employing children in hazardous factories can be imprisoned or fined.
Laws give power to citizens as well.
If the citizens are not satisfied with the decision made by the government, they can move the court and present their case.
For example,
If an individual is not allowed to enter a temple based on his/her caste, he/she can move the court and seek justice.
Que : How did the women during the first world war realise that they were as capable as their male counterparts?
Answer :
- During the First World War that women made their presence felt outside their homes.
- Since men were away fighting in the First World War, women had to take up the work, which was prior considered only fit for men.
- Many women began organizing and managing different kinds of tasks
- They started emerging as decision-makers.
- This helped in countering the stereotyped image of women.
